September is SUPER….full of info!

The PTA has soooo many great opportunities, there is something for everyone! Please see below to learn about volunteer opportunities, enrichment programs and the iNCLOODiES special education group.

Volunteers Make Everything Better

  • Thank you to all our amazing volunteers that have signed up as art docents this year! We are still looking for art docents to teach an art lesson once a month for the following classes:
Kinder: Ali; 2nd: Burnett, Meyer; 3rd: Rice; 4th: Sanchez, Sires; 5th: Sylvester

You don't need to know a lot about art and there are lessons available for you to use. It's a super fun way to help bring more art to your child's classroom! Please email artdocent@maywoodhillspta.com if you're interested!

  • Do you love science? Do you have 1 hour a month to spend in your student's classroom?

If you answered yes to those, then we'd love for you to become a Science Docent.  And here's a secret: you don't need to have a PhD to be a science docent! Science at the elementary level is simple and fun, and our Science Docent program has become a very important addition to the classroom. You can come up with lessons on your own, or use ones that are already done for you along with a lot of kits and supplies.

If interested, email Chelsea Nelson (Cole's mom) at sciencedocent@maywoodhillspta.com.

  • Help Wanted: E-Prep Volunteer Support

We’re looking for one or two volunteers to assist with Emergency Preparedness (E-Prep) tasks throughout the school year. If you’re organized and enjoy behind-the-scenes work that helps keep our school safe and running smoothly, we’d love your help! Here are some keyways you can support the E-Prep team:

    1. Badge Sticker Updates (Before School Starts)

    • Each year before school begins, student name badges get updated with new class stickers.

    • What’s involved: Simply placing pre-sorted stickers (by teacher) onto badges.

    • When: Late August or early September – flexible timing!

    2. Emergency Backpack Checks (Early September)

    • At the start of the school year, every classroom’s red emergency (E-Prep) backpack needs a quick check.

    • What’s involved: Ensure contents are present and batteries are working.

    • We’ll coordinate with teachers ahead of time to place backpacks in the hallway for easy access.

    • When: Flexible, volunteer chooses a day that works best.

    3. Monthly District E-Prep Zoom Meetings

    • Volunteers are invited to attend monthly Zoom meetings hosted by the district for updates and support.

    • Optional but helpful to stay in the loop.

    4. Storage Crate Organization (Ongoing & One-Time Project)

    • Periodically check in with the E-Prep team (Saline, Rose, and me) to help organize and maintain the storage crate throughout the year.

    • One-time task this fall: Help move supplies from the old storage crate to a new shed. We’ll need a team of parent volunteers for this project once we gain access.

    Interested? Email President@maywoodhillspta.com

  • We have a new volunteer role this year! We are looking for classroom or grade level parents/guardians that would serve as leaders. This volunteer would share information, answer questions, and help organize a grade level activity. This is a new role, help us shape it!
Email President@maywoodhillspta.com if you are interested or have questions.

  • We have openings for some easy and flexible volunteer opportunities:
Readerboard, Display Case, Lost and Found and Translations.
Please email President@maywoodhillspta.com if you are interested!

  • Registration opens today!

Check out the fall enrichment club offerings here. Space is limited.

Enrichment activities do require adult volunteers and can be a great opportunity for extended family members as well. Scholarships are available! Please see the registration links or reach out to Megan Ham.

  • Math Challenge is a Math Enrichment Program, available for free to all the Maywood Hills students. It is designed to give the elementary students opportunities to sharpen their mathematical problem solving skills. There is no sign-up necessary. Families and friends are encouraged to discuss and look for solutions together.

There are 15 sets of challenges throughout the year. Each set consists of 18 problems; the level of difficulty increases with each question. All students who participate in 9 or more Math Challenges will be recognized at the end of the school year.
